This week, we were delighted to host Bogang Jun at SUNLab. Bogang is an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics and an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Data Science at Inha University, and is currently a Visiting Associate Professor at MIT.
Her talk, Cities Under Stress: How Relatedness and Economic Complexity Shape Urban Resilience, examined how the structural organization of urban economic activities shapes resilience within cities. Drawing on spatial data on small businesses, mobility, and credit card transactions in Seoul, the talk showed how relatedness and economic complexity can help sustain economic activity and attract population during shocks such as the COVID-19 pandemic and extreme heat.
After the talk, we had a great discussion about our shared research interests and ongoing work in the lab.
You can find the NetSI announcement of Bogang’s talk here.
